What happens after you call Hartford Roofing

Hartford Roofing is a call line for roofing in Hartford and the towns around it in Hartford County. You describe the problem and are connected with an independent local roofing contractor. That contractor inspects the roof, sets and writes down the price, and does the work. The line itself does no roofing.

Our story

How Hartford Roofing works

Hartford calls itself the Insurance Capital of the World, and the city holds a lot of old brick and old timber. A median year built of 1931 is reported for its housing, with about 38.5 percent built before 1939, and much of what stands is duplexes, converted houses and small apartment buildings, including the three- and six-family houses put up in Frog Hollow for factory workers. A roof on one of those buildings has often been replaced more than once, and is often flat or low-slope.

Winter is the other half of the picture. Hartford averages about 44 inches of precipitation and about 49 inches of snow a year, with January highs near 36 degrees and lows near 22. Ice builds at the eaves when heat escapes the attic and snow melts and refreezes. Storms add wind: Tropical Storm Isaias in August 2020 left more than a million Connecticut customers without power, a microburst in May 2018 brought down trees north of Hartford, and the October 1979 tornado at Windsor Locks tore roofs off dozens of buildings.

Hartford Roofing exists because those problems arrive when you are least ready for them, and most people do not have a roofer in their phone. The line asks what you can see and where you are, then puts you through to a roofer who works in your town. The inspection, the quote, the permit conversation and the work all belong to that roofer, and this site tries to give you the questions to ask before you say yes.

Plain answer to a fair question

Who the roofer is, and why we do not list a number here

When you ring Hartford Roofing, the details you give are passed to one independent roofing contractor working near you, the local partner on your call. That contractor, not this line, sends the crew, writes the quote and does the roofing, and its own name goes on the contract you sign.

Connecticut issues no roofing licence of its own. The state registers home improvement contractors with the Department of Consumer Protection, and that registration is a number you can look up in the CT eLicense database, where the status should read Active. Ask the roofer for the registration number on the call or when the roofer phones ahead, and do not agree to work until you have looked it up.

The number is not printed on this website out of respect for the privacy of a small local business, and for no other reason. It is yours for the asking, and once it is in your hand the state lookup will confirm it before a single shingle comes off.

What we hold ourselves to

From the ground, not the ladder

Every call starts with what you can see from the yard. Nobody on the line will ask you to climb onto a wet, icy or snowy roof, and neither should a roofer you have just met.

The price comes from the roofer

Published Connecticut cost guides disagree widely, so this site shows no price list. You get a figure from the roofer who has looked at your roof, in writing, before the work begins.

Registration, not slogans

Connecticut issues no roofing licence. It does register home improvement contractors, and the state's lookup shows whether a registration is active. That is a check you can make in a few minutes.

Clear about the limits

The line does not do roofing, does not adjust or settle claims, and cannot say whether your insurer will pay. Those belong to the roofer and to your insurer.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Hartford Roofing have its own roofers?

No. Hartford Roofing is a call line, and the roofing is carried out by an independent contractor who serves your town. That contractor sets the price and answers for the work. The line helps you reach one without searching while water is already coming in.

Can I choose which roofer I am connected with?

You can say which town you are in and what the job is, and the call goes to a roofer who covers that area. You are never obliged to accept. Compare the written quote with others, check the registration and say no if it does not feel right.

Will the roofer come out on weekends or at night?

That depends on the roofer and on how busy the week has been, so the line cannot promise it. Describe water coming inside and say so early; a roofer decides what is possible and tells you plainly when someone can get there.

How is this different from searching online for a roofer?

You make one call instead of several, and you are put through to a contractor already working in your part of the county. The checking is the same either way: ask for the registration number, a written contract and the permit plan before agreeing.
